If you are wondering where to stay in Uskudar, start with the feeling you want from Istanbul. Do you want to step off a ferry into the Old City, wake up to the Bosphorus, or come back to a quieter neighbourhood after a busy day? Üsküdar can give you all three, but the best hotel area depends on your pace.

Where to stay in Üsküdar: choose the right area

Üsküdar is a large district, so “near Üsküdar” can mean a lively ferry square, a modern business neighbourhood, or a peaceful Bosphorus village. Check the exact address on the map before booking; the district name alone does not tell you how close you are to the water or public transport.

Üsküdar centre and the ferry square

This is my easiest recommendation for a first Istanbul visit. You can walk to the waterfront, watch the ferries, and reach Eminönü or Karaköy without crossing the road by taxi. The area feels local and energetic, with breakfast shops, bakeries and everyday neighbourhood life. The trade-off is noise around the main roads and ferry terminal, especially during the day.

Altunizade

Choose Altunizade if you prefer newer hotels, larger rooms and quick road connections. It suits business travellers and longer stays particularly well. You are not beside the Bosphorus, but metrobus connections and the M5 network make the wider city easier to reach. Mercure Istanbul Altunizade is one example of the modern hotel style found here; always check the current room and transport information on the hotel’s own website.

Çengelköy and Beylerbeyi

These waterfront neighbourhoods are for travellers who value atmosphere over a station outside the door. Mornings are slower, the Bosphorus is close, and evenings feel more residential. Accommodation is more limited than in the centre, so check the last return connection and allow extra time for buses or taxis.

Kuzguncuk and Salacak

Kuzguncuk is a lovely choice for a short, characterful stay: small streets, cafés and a creative local feel. Salacak is better if the view matters most, with the waterfront and Maiden’s Tower scenery close by. Neither area has the same range of hotels as the centre, so read recent guest comments about stairs, hills and evening transport before paying.

The best Üsküdar hotel area for each type of traveller

First visit and historic sightseeing: Üsküdar centre, because the ferry is part of the experience and you avoid a long taxi ride to the waterfront.

Business trip or modern facilities: Altunizade, where larger hotels and road connections are usually more convenient.

Bosphorus views and a quiet evening: Salacak, Çengelköy or Beylerbeyi. Confirm that “sea view” is not simply a distant glimpse between buildings.

Local neighbourhood atmosphere: Kuzguncuk. Pick it when you enjoy walking and do not need a metro entrance immediately outside.

Longer stay: Compare a hotel with a registered serviced apartment, then check cancellation terms, cleaning fees and the exact address.

Getting from Üsküdar to Istanbul’s historic sights

The most enjoyable route is often the simplest: take a ferry from Üsküdar to Eminönü or Karaköy, then continue on foot or by tram towards the historic peninsula. Timetables change, so check the official Şehir Hatları Üsküdar–Karaköy–Eminönü timetable before leaving.

For inland trips, the M5 Üsküdar–Samandıra Central metro line starts at Üsküdar Square. It is useful for reaching the Asian side and for connecting with other lines, but it is not a direct Sultanahmet train. Build your journey around the interchange and avoid guessing the last service.

Üsküdar, Sultanahmet or Taksim?

Choose Üsküdar for Bosphorus mornings, ferries and a calmer local rhythm. Choose Sultanahmet if you want to walk out of the hotel and be surrounded by the major historic sights. Choose Taksim if nightlife, restaurants and a lively European-side base matter more than quiet evenings. None is universally “best”; the right choice is the one that matches your daily route.

What to check before booking

Open the map and check the walking route, not just the district name.

Ask whether the room is genuinely quiet and whether the Bosphorus view is private.

Check the ferry, metro and airport route for your actual arrival time.

Read the cancellation, breakfast and extra-bed conditions carefully.

For apartments, confirm that the property is legally registered and that check-in is clear.

My short version: if this is your first trip and you want Istanbul to feel easy, book around Üsküdar centre. If you want a slower, more scenic stay, look towards Salacak, Kuzguncuk, Çengelköy or Beylerbeyi. Spend ten minutes checking the exact address before booking and the area will reward you every morning.

If you are coming to Istanbul for the Galatasaray vs Stuttgart match in Istanbul, this Champions League night can shape your whole trip. Galatasaray vs VfB Stuttgart is exactly the kind of game that makes a football weekend memorable. The current UEFA fixture lists the game for 3 November 2026 at RAMS Park. Here is the practical plan I would give a friend: where to stay, how to reach the stadium and what to expect after the final whistle. Check UEFA and Galatasaray again before booking, because kick-off and ticket arrangements can change.

Galatasaray vs Stuttgart: the key details

Match: Galatasaray vs VfB Stuttgart

Competition: UEFA Champions League 2026/27

Date: 3 November 2026, currently listed by UEFA

Venue: RAMS Park, Seyrantepe, Istanbul

At the time of writing, the official UEFA listing confirms the fixture but does not give us a reliable public ticket price. I would wait for the club’s own ticket announcement rather than buying from a reseller or assuming that a third-party listing is current.

Where should you stay for the match?

Levent or Şişli/Mecidiyeköy is my first choice for a football weekend. You stay on the European side, have plenty of restaurants and cafés, and can reach the M2 metro without crossing the city on match day. Levent is calmer and more business-like; Şişli and Mecidiyeköy feel busier and usually give you more hotel choices.

Sultanahmet works if this is your first Istanbul trip and the match is only one part of the holiday. You will be close to Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace, but leave early: the journey to RAMS Park involves crossing the city by tram or metro before changing to the M2.

Seyrantepe is the easiest area for the stadium itself, but it has fewer hotels and less atmosphere after the match. I would choose it only if being close to the ground matters more to you than sightseeing and evening options.

The easiest way to get to RAMS Park

Use the M2 Yenikapı–Hacıosman metro line and get off at Seyrantepe. Metro İstanbul says passengers travelling towards Seyrantepe must transfer at Sanayi Mahallesi. From Seyrantepe station, follow the clearly marked pedestrian route towards the stadium.

From Sultanahmet, take the T1 tram towards Kabataş and connect with the metro network, or use a route planner on the day. From Taksim, take the M2 towards Hacıosman and allow extra time for the Sanayi Mahallesi transfer. On a big European night, I would aim to be at the station well before kick-off rather than trying to arrive at the last minute.

Getting back after the final whistle

The trip home is usually harder than the trip there. A taxi can be slow and expensive when thousands of supporters leave together, while the metro station becomes very crowded. Stay patient, keep your ticket and phone secure, and check Metro İstanbul’s match-day notices before leaving your hotel. Special or extended services have been arranged for previous Galatasaray matches, but they should be confirmed for this fixture rather than assumed.

A simple match-day plan

Book a hotel near an M2 station if the match is the main reason for your visit.

Have an early meal near your hotel or in Levent; do not depend on finding a quiet restaurant beside the stadium.

Carry only what the stadium rules allow and check Galatasaray’s official ticket guidance.

Leave your hotel early enough to allow for the Sanayi Mahallesi transfer and queues.

Keep the official Metro İstanbul and Galatasaray pages open on your phone on match day.

Planning a visit to Topkapi Palace’s five new museums? The restored Darphane-i Âmire complex is set to bring more than 10,000 objects into public view, spanning porcelain, calligraphy, imperial weapons, maps and the history of minting. Public opening was reported for 25 October 2026, following an opening ceremony the previous day; confirm the visitor date and practical details with the official National Palaces site before you go.

What is opening at Darphane-i Âmire?

Darphane-i Âmire was the Ottoman imperial mint complex inside the first courtyard of Topkapi Palace. After a seven-year restoration across 17 historic buildings, the site is being reused as a museum cluster. National Palaces says the new museums will display more than 10,000 objects. The project gives visitors a different way to explore the palace’s collections beyond its familiar courtyards and imperial rooms.

The five new museum collections

National Palaces Porcelain Museum: historic porcelain from the palace collections.

Calligraphy Museum: works of Islamic calligraphy, known in Turkish as hüsn-i hat.

Imperial Weapons Museum: arms and military objects associated with the imperial collections.

Maps Museum: maps and cartographic material.

Mint and Industrial Tools Museum: tools and objects connected with minting and production.

The range makes the complex especially interesting for visitors who want to understand how court life, craftsmanship, administration and technology intersected in Ottoman history. It also offers a useful complement to a first visit to the main Topkapi Palace highlights.

Opening date: what visitors should know

Reports published on 20 October described an opening ceremony on Saturday, 24 October 2026, with public visits expected from Sunday, 25 October. One report described 24 October as the planned opening date, so the public schedule should be checked directly with National Palaces before setting out. As this is a newly opening museum complex, hours, ticket prices, entry arrangements and Museum Pass coverage should also be confirmed through the official visitor information; do not assume that the rules for other parts of Topkapi Palace automatically apply here.

For official updates, check Türkiye’s National Palaces Administration and its visitor information before your visit. If you are comparing admission options for other Istanbul museums, see our guide to the Istanbul Museum Pass versus individual tickets.

How to plan your visit

Allow time for the wider Topkapi Palace grounds as well as the new galleries. The Darphane complex is within the palace’s first courtyard, but the museums are a separate addition and the route or access arrangements may differ. Check the official map and entrance guidance on the day, and avoid buying a ticket from an unofficial reseller until the administration confirms how entry works.

For a fuller day in the historic peninsula, you can pair the palace with nearby Sultanahmet sights; our three-day Istanbul itinerary helps you group major landmarks without rushing between districts.

Why the opening matters

The restoration turns a historic production site into a place where visitors can encounter collections that are often less familiar than the palace’s best-known rooms. For travellers interested in Ottoman art and material culture, the five museums could add real depth to a Topkapi visit. The most useful step before going is to verify the latest public opening, hours and ticket details directly with National Palaces, as these practical arrangements can change during a new museum launch.

Istanbul Airport best airport 2026 headlines are making the rounds after Condé Nast Traveller’s UK edition placed Istanbul Airport (IST) first in its 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards. The result is a timely reason to look at what the airport offers travelers—and what you should still check before you fly.

In the UK edition’s published list, Istanbul scored 94.29, ahead of Singapore Changi at 93.92 and Dubai International at 93.18. It is a readers’ poll, so it reflects the experience and preferences of that survey’s participants; it is not a universal technical certification or a promise that every journey will be effortless.

What the Istanbul Airport best airport 2026 result means

The award is useful travel context, but it should be read precisely: it is the top airport in Condé Nast Traveller UK’s 2026 reader-voted list. Different editions and surveys can publish different rankings. Condé Nast Traveller’s US edition, for example, published a separate 2026 list that placed Istanbul second behind Singapore Changi. These are separate reader polls, not one official global league table.

For a visitor, the practical takeaway is simpler than the headline: IST is a major international hub with a wide range of flights, services and onward transport. The award does not change your airline’s baggage rules, connection time, check-in deadline or the time it takes to reach your hotel.

Arriving at IST: plan the trip beyond the terminal

Istanbul Airport is on the city’s European side, well outside the historic center. Your transfer choice depends on your destination, arrival time, luggage and traffic. The M11 metro connects the airport with the city rail network; at Gayrettepe, passengers can transfer to the M2 line. HAVAIST coaches serve several parts of Istanbul. Routes, operating details and fares can change, so check the operators’ current information on your travel day.

Metro: Useful if your destination connects conveniently to the M11 and onward rail lines.

HAVAIST: A direct coach may be easier with luggage or for a stop near one of its current routes.

Taxi or private transfer: Door-to-door, but journey time depends heavily on traffic and the exact destination.

For a step-by-step comparison, see our Istanbul Airport to city center guide. Before leaving, check the official Metro İstanbul network and service information or the official HAVAIST timetable.

Check your airport code: IST and SAW are different airports

Istanbul has two major airports. Istanbul Airport uses the code IST; Sabiha Gökçen International Airport uses SAW and is on the Asian side. An award for IST does not mean your flight lands there. Confirm the three-letter code on your ticket before booking transport or choosing a hotel area, especially if you have a connection between airports.

If you are connecting through Istanbul, follow the transfer instructions from your airline and confirm whether your bags are checked through to the final destination. If you plan to leave the airport during a stopover, check Türkiye’s current entry requirements for your passport before making plans.

Is Istanbul Airport the right choice for your trip?

The 2026 award adds a positive note to Istanbul’s profile as an international gateway, but the best airport for you is the one that fits your route, fare, arrival time and final destination. Compare the full itinerary—not just the airport headline—and leave enough time for the transfer into the city.

Information checked on October 21, 2026. Airport services, public-transport routes and fares may change; confirm current details with the official operators before travel.

Visitors can enjoy the holiday atmosphere, but should distinguish confirmed transport benefits from unannounced concerts or fireworks. This guide explains what is known and what still needs checking.

Illustrative celebration photograph, not from October 2026. Photo: Omar Ramadan / Unsplash.

Republic Day Istanbul: why October 29 matters

Republic Day commemorates the proclamation of the Republic of Türkiye on 29 October 1923. In 2026 the holiday falls on Thursday 29 October and marks the 103rd anniversary. Expect flags, public ceremonies and a festive atmosphere.

Republic Day in Istanbul 2026: free metro conditions

Metro Istanbul has announced free travel on 29 October on its rail network for holders of personalized Istanbulkart cards, under the municipal decision. Do not assume all visitors, airport transfers, private ferries or every form of transport are included. See Metro Istanbul’s announcement.

Where are the official celebrations?

As of 18 October, a complete verified citywide 2026 concert and ceremony schedule was not available from the official sources checked. Avoid copying 2025 concert locations into a 2026 article. Follow Kültür İstanbul and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality for fresh announcements.

Will there be fireworks?

An official 2026 fireworks location and time have not been verified. Do not book a Bosphorus viewpoint or cruise solely on an assumption that a fireworks display will take place.

Museums and public holiday opening hours

Individual attractions may follow special schedules. Check the institution’s official site before visiting, especially if you have prepaid tickets. Our museum ticket guide explains admission choices.

Possible road closures

Large ceremonies can lead to temporary security cordons and changes to transport routes. Exact 2026 closures should be checked closer to the holiday through official IETT and Metro Istanbul announcements.

A visitor-friendly October 29 plan

Choose a waterfront walk, a museum with confirmed opening hours and one official celebration once announced. Leave spare travel time near major squares and avoid overcrowded routes. Read our transport guide.

Practical holiday etiquette

Follow instructions at ceremonies, respect memorial events and ask before photographing participants up close. Bring a rain layer for late October and check the forecast.

Quick answers

Is 29 October a public holiday? Yes. Is every journey free? No blanket claim is supported; eligibility and network coverage matter. Are fireworks confirmed? Not in the sources checked. Last reviewed 18 October 2026.

Republic Day in Istanbul 2026: frequently asked questions

Will shops and restaurants be open on October 29?

Many private businesses may operate, but holiday opening hours differ. Confirm the hours of any restaurant, shop or attraction you particularly want to visit. Public offices may be closed because the date is a national holiday.

Can visitors use the free public transport offer?

Metro Istanbul’s announcement specifies personalized Istanbulkart cards. A standard anonymous visitor card should not be presumed eligible. If you do not meet the conditions, plan to pay the usual fare and check the official operator’s instructions.

Where can I see the atmosphere without a ticket?

Public waterfronts and central squares may offer flags and a holiday atmosphere, but large gatherings can involve security restrictions. Pick a convenient area, respect any barriers and do not assume that an unannounced concert will be held there.

How early should I check for a celebration programme?

Check the municipality and venue calendars again in the days leading up to 29 October. Announcements can appear close to the date. Save the exact event page rather than relying on a previous year’s search result.

Republic Day Istanbul: final planning checklist

Check the official source on the day, confirm eligibility and ticket rules, and allow time for transport. This Republic Day in Istanbul 2026 guide is dated 18 October 2026 and is not a real-time status service.

The post Republic Day in Istanbul 2026: October 29 Events and Transport appeared first on Best of Istanbul.

Free entry does not necessarily mean unlimited seats; check the individual listing for registration, language and age rules.

22 October: photography presentation

The municipal calendar lists an ANAFOD Ömer Orhun photography presentation and talk at Müze Gazhane on Thursday 22 October at 19:30. The event is marked free. Confirm the language and whether advance registration is required.

23 October: political ecology discussion

The listing ‘Felaketlerin eşiğinde yeni yol arayışları: Politik Ekoloji Hareketleri’ is scheduled for Friday 23 October at 19:30 at Müze Gazhane and marked free. It may be conducted in Turkish, so international visitors should check accessibility.

26 October: Psikanaliz 101

Kültür İstanbul lists Psikanaliz 101 at Müze Gazhane on Monday 26 October at 19:00. This date range does not imply daily concerts; verify the remaining individual performance dates.

Free walks and neighborhood visits

You can explore waterfront promenades and residential streets without paying an admission fee. Transport, food and purchases still cost money. Our Kuzguncuk and Kadıköy guides provide options.

Are all museums free?

No. Some collections or temporary exhibitions are free, while others require admission. Do not rely on an old list without checking the museum’s own website. Recheck before traveling; events can change or fill up.

free events in Istanbul October 2026: frequently asked questions

Does free mean no booking is needed?

Not necessarily. A free lecture or workshop can still require registration and may have a capacity limit. Read the specific organizer’s listing and arrive early if entry is first-come, first-served.

Are the Müze Gazhane talks in English?

The official listings do not establish English-language interpretation for the events described here. Visitors who do not speak Turkish should contact the venue before making a special trip.

What other costs should I expect?

Admission may be free while public transport, refreshments and purchases are not. A simple neighborhood walk can be inexpensive, but budget for getting there and back.

How do I avoid outdated free-event recommendations?

Look for an event page with a specific 2026 date, venue and organizer. Be skeptical of generic lists that reuse old programmes without a new announcement. The municipality’s current calendar is a better starting point.

Free events in Istanbul: final planning checklist

Check the official source on the day, confirm eligibility and ticket rules, and allow time for transport.

Looking for the best photo spots in Istanbul? You don’t need an expensive camera or a rooftop reservation to bring home memorable pictures. The trick is choosing a viewpoint that matches the scene you want: a quiet street, a dramatic skyline, a Bosphorus sunset or a lively ferry crossing. This guide focuses on recognizable locations, practical timing and respectful photography rather than promising secret places that may not be accessible.

Quick picks: where should you go?

Classic Istanbul postcard: Ortaköy waterfront or Salacak for Maiden’s Tower.

Colorful streets: Balat’s Kiremit Street.

Panoramic skyline: Pierre Loti Hill or Çamlıca Hill.

Atmospheric city life: Galata Bridge and the public ferries.

Short first-time visit: Galata Tower area, Sultanahmet Square and Eminönü.

My recommendation? Pick three or four nearby locations rather than racing across both continents for a checklist photo. Istanbul is much more rewarding when you leave room for the unexpected scene along the way.

1. Galata Tower and Büyük Hendek Street

Galata Tower, Istanbul. Photo: Osman Köycü / Unsplash.

Where: Galata, Beyoğlu. Best time: Early morning or blue hour.

Use the streets leading toward the tower to frame its stone silhouette between buildings. A street-level shot is free; entering the tower is a separate, ticketed experience.

Practical tip: Watch for traffic and keep doorways clear.

2. Ortaköy Mosque Waterfront

Where: Ortaköy, Beşiktaş. Best time: Early morning for a less crowded foreground.

Frame the mosque against the Bosphorus Bridge, then try a wider view with the waterfront and boats.

Practical tip: The square can be busy; do not block pedestrian access.

3. Maiden’s Tower from Salacak

Maiden’s Tower on the Bosphorus. Photo: Ibrahim Uzun / Unsplash. This photo shows the landmark, not a guaranteed exact camera position on Salacak.

Where: Salacak waterfront, Üsküdar. Best time: Late afternoon and sunset.

Photograph the tower from the public waterfront, with ferries and the historic peninsula beyond.

Practical tip: The tower looks smaller in wide-angle phone shots; try a modest zoom.

4. Kiremit Street Colorful Houses

Colorful street near Balat. Photo: Jillian Amatt / Unsplash. The photograph is from near Balat; it is not verified as Kiremit Street itself.

Where: Kiremit Caddesi, Balat. Best time: Weekday morning.

The sloping street and painted façades create layered, colorful compositions.

Practical tip: These are real homes. Never enter steps or pose against private doors without permission.

5. Süleymaniye Mosque Courtyard

Where: Süleymaniye, Fatih. Best time: Morning or late afternoon.

Look for the rhythm of domes, arches and minarets, and explore public streets below for Golden Horn views.

Practical tip: Respect prayer times and any posted photography restrictions.

6. Galata Bridge and Eminönü

Where: Galata Köprüsü, Eminönü. Best time: Golden hour and blue hour.

Combine ferry movement, fishermen, the skyline and reflections for lively city photographs.

Practical tip: Use public pedestrian areas and avoid obstructing anglers.

7. Pierre Loti Hill

Where: Eyüpsultan. Best time: Clear morning or late afternoon.

A broad Golden Horn panorama works particularly well with layered foreground rooftops.

Practical tip: Haze can obscure distant detail; check visibility before traveling.

8. Çamlıca Hill

Where: Büyük Çamlıca, Üsküdar. Best time: Clear morning or sunset.

Wide views capture the scale of Istanbul and its waterways.

Practical tip: A phone’s panorama mode may work better than a single wide frame.

9. İstiklal Street Historic Tram

Where: İstiklal Caddesi, Beyoğlu. Best time: Early morning or evening.

The red heritage tram makes a strong subject against the long pedestrian street.

Practical tip: Never step onto the tracks to stage a shot.

10. Sultanahmet Square

Where: Sultanahmet Meydanı, Fatih. Best time: Early morning.

Use the square’s open space to photograph the Blue Mosque and surrounding architecture.

Practical tip: Public-square photography differs from photography inside active places of worship.

11. Bosphorus Ferry Deck

Where: Public ferry route between European and Asian shores. Best time: Daylight or late afternoon.

Capture passing shorelines, gulls and landmarks from changing angles as the ferry moves.

Practical tip: Hold your phone securely and follow crew instructions; routes and timetables change.

12. Büyükada Historic Streets

Where: Büyükada, Adalar. Best time: Weekday morning.

Look for historic timber houses, leafy streets and quiet island details away from the busiest pier.

Practical tip: Allow extra time for the ferry and respect residential privacy.

Map: find these Istanbul photo locations

Use the interactive map to explore the main landmarks. Map pins identify the destination area, not the exact position or camera angle of the photographs above. For street scenes, explore nearby public sidewalks and check local access.

How to plan your Istanbul photography day

Route A: Historic peninsula and Golden Horn

Start in Sultanahmet Square, continue to Süleymaniye and finish around Eminönü and Galata Bridge. This combination works well for architecture, skyline and street life without requiring a trip across the Bosphorus.

Route B: Galata, waterfront and the Bosphorus

Photograph the Galata Tower streets early, explore the public waterfront later and choose Ortaköy for a distinctive bridge-and-mosque composition. Allow extra time for traffic and transport changes.

Route C: Asian-side sunset

Explore Üsküdar’s waterfront, then settle near Salacak to photograph Maiden’s Tower as the light changes. For a different kind of wide panorama, choose Çamlıca Hill instead of trying to squeeze both into a short evening.

Photo tips that actually make a difference

Light: Early morning is often kinder to architecture and gives you more space. Blue hour can be beautiful around illuminated landmarks, but a steady hand matters. Lens: A phone’s standard lens is usually enough for streets; modest zoom helps distant towers stand out. Weather: Cloudy skies can suit colorful Balat façades, while clear visibility matters more for panoramic hills.

Etiquette: Ask before photographing identifiable people, be particularly careful around children, respect worshippers and never treat residential doorsteps as public photo props. Commercial shoots and drone operations may require permissions; don’t assume that public access means every kind of filming is allowed.

Are these Istanbul photo spots free?

Many street, square and public waterfront viewpoints can be enjoyed without a sightseeing ticket. That does not mean every tower, terrace, garden, museum or boat trip is free. Check the official operator before entering paid attractions; opening hours and access arrangements can change.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I take the best sunset photos in Istanbul?

Salacak’s public waterfront is a strong choice for Maiden’s Tower and the historic skyline. Clear conditions and the season affect the exact direction of the sun, so check sunset position on your travel date.

Where can I photograph Istanbul without paying an entrance fee?

Try the public viewpoints around Ortaköy, Galata Bridge, Sultanahmet Square and Balat’s streets. Transport and optional attractions may still cost money.

Is Balat worth visiting just for photos?

Yes, if you enjoy colorful streets and architectural details. But it’s also a residential neighborhood with a rich history, not an outdoor studio. Walk thoughtfully and make time for its wider cultural setting.

UEFA also lists Beşiktaş against Crystal Palace on Thursday 22 October in the Europa League. Both are Istanbul home matches; schedules can still change.

Fenerbahçe vs Slavia Praha: 20 October

The UEFA fixture page lists the match at 18:45. Fenerbahçe play on the Asian side of Istanbul in Kadıköy. Confirm kickoff time, ticket rules and stadium entry instructions with Fenerbahçe and UEFA before making plans.

Beşiktaş vs Crystal Palace: 22 October

Beşiktaş’s official match page lists 22 October at 22:00 local time at Tüpraş Stadyumu. The ground is close to the Beşiktaş waterfront. See the club’s official match page for confirmation.

Where to buy tickets safely

Start with the home club’s official website and follow its authorized ticket link. Ticket registration, identity checks and away-fan rules depend on the match. Never rely on an anonymous reseller or an unverified screenshot of a mobile ticket.

Do tourists need Passolig?

Requirements differ by competition and sale. Do not assume every UEFA match follows the same rules as a domestic Süper Lig match. Read the specific club ticket announcement before paying.

Getting to the stadium

Kadıköy has ferry and rail links, while Beşiktaş can be reached from several European-side transport corridors. Matchday security and road restrictions may change the final walking route. Check Metro Istanbul for service notices and our Istanbulkart guide for normal transport information.

Matchday rules and safety

Bring valid identification, arrive early, use the entrance printed on your ticket and check the stadium’s prohibited-items policy. Away supporters should follow their club’s instructions rather than attempting to enter a home-fan section.

Which fixtures are not in Istanbul?

UEFA lists Galatasaray away at Lille on 21 October, so that game should not be advertised as an Istanbul event. For other domestic matches, use the Turkish Football Federation schedule instead of an unverified event roundup.

Frequently asked questions

Can tourists attend? Usually, subject to eligibility and ticket availability. Can you buy on matchday? Never assume so. Is transport running after a late kickoff? Check that night’s official service announcements. Last checked: 18 October 2026.

football matches in Istanbul October 2026: frequently asked questions

Can I buy a ticket if I do not live in Türkiye?

Some matches permit international buyers, but the account, identification and ticket-delivery requirements must be checked for that exact game. Do not assume a passport alone guarantees eligibility or that the club will sell tickets on matchday.

Where should I stay for a football weekend?

For Fenerbahçe, Kadıköy or another well-connected Asian-side neighborhood can simplify the journey. For Beşiktaş, a European-side base with good access to Beşiktaş may be more convenient. A short map distance is not always a short trip on matchday.

What time should I arrive?

Plan to reach the stadium area well before kickoff. Security queues, ticket checks and street closures can slow entry. The precise gate-opening time belongs to the organizer; consult the club’s match announcement.

Can I bring a camera or backpack?

Rules for bags, cameras, batteries and other items can vary by competition and stadium. Check the prohibited-items list before leaving. A locker or luggage storage option should not be assumed to exist at the stadium.

Istanbul football matches: final planning checklist

Check the official source on the day, confirm eligibility and ticket rules, and allow time for transport. A driver may need a different pickup point during disruption. Never assume a flight diversion means all airport roads are closed.

Can I still visit Sultanahmet, Galata or Kadıköy?

The conditions in one neighborhood do not describe the whole city. Check the latest district-level warnings and public transport notices. If a specific street or station is closed, change the route. Do not treat old footage of a flooded road as evidence that it remains flooded today.

Will travel insurance cover weather disruption?

Coverage varies by insurer and policy. Some plans distinguish between cancellation, missed connections, delays and natural disasters. Keep airline notices and receipts, then contact your insurer for the applicable terms. This guide cannot confirm eligibility for any particular policy.

What should I save before leaving my hotel?

Save your hotel’s address, airline booking reference, current weather alerts, the nearest safe public transport route and the emergency number 112. If you are visiting with children or people with mobility needs, choose a shorter route with fewer transfers.

Istanbul flood travel advice: final planning checklist

Check the official source on the day, confirm eligibility and ticket rules, and allow time for transport.
